Reclaimed barn wood walls – Whether you go green, or you just like the rustic look, use recycled or reclaimed barn boards to decorate a number of rooms in your home. Do not use old barn boards for architectural support in the event the board is weak. Buy kiln dried barn wood. Oven drying kills insects.
Add a touch of warmth to your floors by installing old barn boards in place instead of the traditional hardwood. Rough barn boards offer a weathered quality for a rustic look, or a more traditional look by buying reclaimed lumber made from reclaimed barn wood walls. Child boards usually vary in color, which may seem obvious, when the timber is mounted.
If you love your floors just the way they are, use your barn wood to cover the walls. You can use the barn board in the same way as you do plank paneling or wainscoting to cover a wall. Child boards will require nails instead of glue to attach them to the wall, but the boards add both decor and a little extra insulation against winter and summer weather. In most cases you will only want to cover a wall or two of a room with reclaimed barn wood walls. An entire room covered in barn board may be too dark.
